OQTAA Branding
Awarded Ethos Creative Annual 2018 spotlight award by AIGA Orange County, California. Approached by the Executive Director of the Orlando Queer and Trans Association (OQTAA), a new Orlando based non-profit focusing on the intersection of being queer & Asian-american, to create a logo and identity kit. My inspiration for the logo came from the Chinese Ouroboros - a snake that eats itself. Ouroboros represents wholeness, which is an important factor in OQTAAs mission; bringing together the intersecting identities of being of Asian decent and queer. I chose to leave the top left and bottom right portions of the logo black to emulate the head and tail of the snake. The top right is the gay pride flag, and the bottom left is the trans pride flag. The logo is used on all OQTAA materials including banners, t-shirts, business cards, and other stationary. To create the sleek, minimalist, and modern feel the client was looking for, the only colors used in OQTAAs branding (outside the logo) are black, white, and lavender. Lavender is significant to the LGBTQ+ community and was used in place of the pride flag before its existence. Lemon Milk is the main typeface due to its inviting yet sleek characteristics.
